Join us for our Inspired to Paint: Watercolor Practice I – Build Your Foundation series. Each week we’ll study and copy renowned artists to build your watercolor skills in color, technique and composition.
This week our featured artist is: Chiura Obata.
Chiura Obata (1885–1975) was a Japanese-American artist known for his landscape paintings that blended Eastern and Western artistic traditions. His work often featured California’s wilderness areas, painted with Japanese sumi ink and watercolor.

Bring your own watercolor supplies—paints of your choice, a sketchbook, brushes, and watercolor paper. Working with your own materials helps you build confidence and continue painting at home.
Don’t have supplies yet? No problem. We have a few donated watercolor palettes, brushes, and paper available for use. Let me know ahead of time if you need supplies and I’ll have them ready for you.
