Join us for our Watercolor Practice series. Each week we’ll study and copy renowned artists to build your watercolor skills in color, technique and composition—then use what you’ve learned to create art that reflects your own style.
This week our featured artist is: John Marin.
John Marin (1870–1953) is best known for his expressive, semi-abstract watercolors of New York City skyscrapers, the Maine coastline, and the Southwest desert. He pioneered a loose, energetic style that used bold brushstrokes and fractured compositions to capture the motion and rhythm.

Bring your own watercolor supplies—paints of your choice, a sketchbook, brushes, and watercolor paper. Working with your own materials helps you build confidence and continue painting at home.
Don’t have supplies yet? No problem. We have a few donated watercolor palettes, brushes, and paper available for use. Let me know ahead of time if you need supplies and I’ll have them ready for you.
