Join us for our Watercolor Practice series. Each week we’ll study and copy renowned artists to build your watercolor skills in color, technique and composition—then use what you’ve learned to create art that reflects your own style.
This week our featured artist is: Lois Mailou Jones.
Lois Mailou Jones (1905–1998) was a prominent American artist who worked across multiple mediums including watercolor, oil painting, and mixed media. Born in Boston, she became a significant figure in the Harlem Renaissance. She founded the art department at Palmer Memorial Institute in North Carolina and taught at Howard University.

Bring your own watercolor supplies—paints of your choice, a sketchbook, brushes, and watercolor paper. Working with your own materials helps you build confidence and continue painting at home.
Don’t have supplies yet? No problem. We have a few donated watercolor palettes, brushes, and paper available for use. Let me know ahead of time if you need supplies and I’ll have them ready for you.
