Join us for our Watercolor Practice series. Each week we’ll study and copy renowned artists to build your watercolor skills in color, technique and composition—then use what you’ve learned to create art that reflects your own style.
This week our featured artists is: Alma W. Thomas.
Alma Thomas (1891–1978) was an American artist and educator, best known for her vibrant, abstract paintings filled with rhythmic patterns and bold color. After a long career teaching art in Washington, D.C. public schools, she fully embraced painting in her 70s, developing a signature style inspired by nature.

Bring your own watercolor supplies—paints of your choice, a sketchbook, brushes, and watercolor paper. Working with your own materials helps you build confidence and continue painting at home.
Don’t have supplies yet? No problem. We have a few donated watercolor palettes, brushes, and paper available for use. Let me know ahead of time if you need supplies and I’ll have them ready for you.
