Lanell Dike

My introduction to hiking was through a high school club led by our biology teacher. On the first hike of my life, I struggled up the hill with my backpack on, not sure I could make it. I had never been so far from the familiar. No buildings, no concrete sidewalk. Just dirt, plants, trees, animals, bugs, sky.

We sat next to a river. Twenty or more teenagers scattered about, perched on rocks. We were instructed not to talk for five minutes. Just to sit and listen. I had never listened like that before. I’d never sat in a place where the only human-made thing was us. After that, being outside in wild landscapes became necessary.

What can I tell you? Even if you walk the same trail day after day, what you see and experience will be different every single time.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing some creative time together in this awe-inspiring place.
